João Victor Cabral-Costa was 1st Place Winner of the 2022 Mark A. Smith Award from the International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN), Journal of Neurochemistry, and Wiley Publishing House.
He was awarded for the “outstanding research paper” ’Mitochondrial sodium/calcium exchanger NCLX regulates glycolysis in astrocytes, impacting on cognitive performance’, published in the Journal of Neurochemistry, in 2022.
The study, “elegant and convincing”, according to the editors, presents a new mechanism associating mitochondrial function with cognition and was carried out during his doctorate, supervised by Professor Alicia Kowaltowski, from the Instituto de Química at Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and a member of the RIDC Redoxoma.
