Researcher Débora Santos Rocha received a best poster award during the European Congress of Endocrinology 2026, held from May 9 to 12 in Prague, Czech Republic, for the study “Estrogen Receptor Beta Activation Orchestrates Lipid Remodeling and Fatty Acid Oxidation to Prevent Lipotoxicity”.

The award-winning study evaluated the selective activation of the estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) as an alternative to estradiol in postmenopausal conditions associated with energy overload. The results showed that receptor activation improves lipid homeostasis, ketogenesis, and glucose regulation in animals subjected to ovarian removal. Effects in hepatocytes were also observed, including modulation of hepatic metabolism, remodeling of the lipid profile, and changes in metabolic flexibility.

Débora is a postdoctoral researcher at the Energy Metabolism Laboratory of the Instituto de Química at Universidade de São Paulo, under the supervision of Professor Alicia Kowaltowski, a researcher affiliated with the RIDC Redoxoma, CEPIx Redoxoma, and INCT RedoxMed.
